Citizenship

ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSHIP THROUGH RECOGNITION

In accordance with Article 12 of the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova no. 1024-XIV of June 6, 2000, they have the right to acquire the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by recognition:

• persons born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova or persons one of whose parents or grandparents was born on the named territory;
• persons who until June 28, 1940 lived in Bessarabia, northern Bukovina, Herţa county and R.A.S.S.M., their descendants, if they reside legally and habitually on the territory of the Republic of Moldova *;
• persons deported or refugees from the territory of the Republic of Moldova since June 28, 1940, as well as their descendants *;
 

The applicant shall submit to the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Moldova the following acts:

• Application - questionnaire (to be filled at the Embassy);
• Autobiography (will contain information about the date and place of birth, date of leaving the Republic of Moldova, occupation and place of residence, etc.);
• Two color photographs, 35 x 45 mm;
• Birth certificate;
• The internal passport and the one for traveling abroad, in original;
• Marriage and / or divorce and / or death certificate (in case of divorce, the extract from the Marriage Register is also presented);
• Criminal record in the country of residence;
• Certificate from home about the composition of the family;
• Birth certificate of children (in the case of children up to 18 years old);
• Birth certificate of parents or grandparents;
• Certificate of marriage and / or divorce of the parents or grandparents, as the case may be;
• Passport of parents or grandparents (in case of deceased persons the death certificate is presented);

* In addition, a confirmatory certificate regarding the domicile on the territory of the Republic of Moldova will be presented, during the indicated period.

* In addition, the certificate from the competent body certifying the fact of deportation or refugee of the applicant or of his parents or grandparents from the territory of the Republic of Moldova is presented.

 

IMPORTANT! The documents necessary for the acquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova are presented in Romanian. If they are to be drawn up in another language, it is necessary to present them in an official translation, authenticated by a notary.

 

RE-ACQUISITION OF CITIZENSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

In accordance with art. 16 of the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova no. 1024-XIV of June 6, 2000, citizens who previously had the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova have the right to regain it.

The applicant is to submit the following documents to the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Moldova.

• Application - questionnaire (to be filled in at the Embassy);
• Autobiography (will contain information about the date and place of birth, date of leaving the Republic of Moldova, occupation and place of residence, etc.);
• Four color photographs, 35 x 45 mm;
• Birth certificate;
• The internal passport and the one for traveling abroad, in original;
• Marriage and / or divorce and / or death certificate (in case of divorce, the extract from the Marriage Register is also presented);
• Birth certificate of children (in the case of children up to 18 years old);
• The certificate regarding the renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova or the copy of the decision regarding the withdrawal of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
• Criminal record in the country of residence;
• Certificate from home about the composition of the family.
 

IMPORTANT! The documents necessary for regaining the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova are presented in Romanian. If they are to be drawn up in another language, it is necessary to present them in an official translation, authenticated by a notary.

WAIVER OF CITIZENSHIP OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA

List of required documents:

• Application-questionnaire (to be filled in at the Embassy);
• autobiography;
• certificate from home about the composition of the family;
• the certificate of possession or acquisition of another citizenship or the guarantee of the acquisition of this citizenship (valid not less than one year from the date of submitting the application);
• the passport with the stamp applied by the Public Services Agency regarding the establishment with permanent residence on the territory of another country.
• birth certificate;
• birth certificates of minor children (who have not reached the age of 18), regardless of where they were born or whether they renounced their citizenship;
• marriage or divorce certificate;
• four photographs of size 3.5cm * 4.5cm;
• children aged 14 to 18 declare in writing their consent to renounce the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. This declaration is to be notarized.
• Declaration of the parent, citizen of the Republic of Moldova, regarding the consent to renounce the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by his minor child together with the other parent (notarized).

The documents are submitted in original + copies in 4 copies. The term for examining the application is 1 year.

IMPORTANT: The civil status documents (birth, marriage, divorce certificates, etc.) issued by the authorities of foreign states after 17.08.2001 are to be transcribed in the Civil Status Register of the Republic of Moldova.
